To personally help homeless New Yorkers in your own neighborhood, please use the following guidelines:

1. Print several copies of our Resource Guide, along with this Know Your Rights Flyer (subway shutdown).

2. Pack a bag with granola bars, a bottle of water, and the above flyers.

3. Purchase a mask or two, place in a ziploc bag, and put inside the bag along with any other helpful items such as hand sanitizer, toothbrush/toothpaste, body wipes, etc.

4. Pray that God will use you to do good work in your neighborhood.

5. Practice CDC guidelines for staying safe (and keeping others safe, as well).

6. When taking a walk or going to the store, bring a bag or two with you and offer them to those in need.

*If you live outside Manhattan or want to explore more services within a specific neighborhood please go here or download City Relief's street sheet.

BONUS

It takes a touch more effort, but if you can study the Resource Guide first, you might be able to answer questions someone has, such as: shower locations, the closest food truck, or if there is a safe place for shelter. You may even want to highlight those closest to you before placing the resource guide in the bag.

If you have any questions about this please email hello@rescuealliance.nyc.

Current + Future State of Homelessness
in NYC & How You Can Help
a webinar

In this dynamic webinar from August 11, 2020, leaders from The Bowery Mission, The Salvation Army and New York City Relief shared an update from the frontlines serving people who struggle with homelessness. Not only was very timely information given on how our neighbors experiencing homelessness have been challenged by COVID-19, insight was offered on how to get engaged and make a difference in serving our friends on the streets.

Rescue Alliance COVID-19 efforts

While meal service at each location has increased exponentially, emergency shelter is still being offered through The Bowery Mission, connection to external resources are provided by NYC Relief, and The Salvation Army has started mobilizing long-term recovery efforts. Below you'll see some of the collaborative efforts of Rescue Alliance member and partner organizations, along with new partners we're now connected to as a result of the pandemic. Let's celebrate the good amidst all the pain. Let's pause and pray for those that are mourning the loss of a loved one, a job, or are enduring financial stress and have no place to call home.

Please consider giving here so we can continue to cultivate collaborative opportunities.

Hand Washing Stations

With gratitude from Google.org for their generous donation and to Love Beyond Walls for their "Love Sinks In" initiative, we now have hand washing sinks in at least ten different locations throughout Manhattan and The Bronx.

Face Coverings

Thanks to the generosity and persistent efforts of The Life Preservation Fund by NGOs, Senator Kavanagh's office, Gotta Go Ministries, and others more than 150,000 pieces of PPE are being shared with homeless New Yorkers throughout our city.

Mobile Showers

Showers of Blessing and Doctors Without Borders have both been life-saving miracle workers during the pandemic, rolling in mobile showers to downtown Brooklyn, the Lower East Side, midtown Manhattan, and Harlem.

Hygiene Kits

Through the faithful volunteer efforts of Hope For New York and RA partner Shower Power, thousands of hygiene kits have been bought, donated, packed and distributed so our neighbors on the street can stay safe and clean during the crisis.

Coming Soon

Some of our homeless friends have been wearing the same clothes for close to three months. With stores closed and donations running dry, there have been few, if any, locations for our friends to find new undergarments, pants, shirts, etc. We are working on a collaboration with RA members to change this and we will update you soon.
